Notre Dame is currently seeking authorization to become an IB World School with a planned Diploma Programme launch in September, 2024.
We believe that offering the International Baccalaureate Program will help us advance our mission of helping students achieve their potential in a diverse and engaging learning environment.
The IB Program is an internationally recognized and respected model of teaching and learning that empowers students to become inquisitive, open-minded, and compassionate thinkers. This holistic approach to education aligns with Notre Dame's vision for 21st century education.
Becoming an authorized IB school means that our curriculum meets a high standard. Teachers will be prepared to develop and implement rigorous student-centered and inquiry-driven courses. Students will encounter classes that emphasize creativity, communication, and global perspectives and be ready to tackle the complex problems of our interconnected world. Colleges will be assured that our students possess and can demonstrate the skills they need to succeed.
Juniors and seniors will be able to take individual IB-level courses or attempt the full IB Diploma, which is in addition to the Notre Dame diploma, by taking six IB-level courses. Students will demonstrate their learning through a variety of papers and projects that are externally assessed. Students may be able to earn college credit for these courses by achieving certain scores.
What will the IB Diploma Program look like at Notre Dame?
Juniors and seniors may take up to 6 IB subjects. Those who would like to pursue the full International Baccalaureate Diploma must also complete the DP Core. Students may be able to earn college credit by earning a certain score.
Notre Dame will initially offer six subjects at the IB level:
• Literature
• French or Spanish
• History of the Americas
• World Religions
• Math: Applications and Analysis
• Environmental Systems and Societies
Diploma Programme Core
• Theory of Knowledge (2 semester course)
• Creativity, Activity, and Service Project
• Extended Essay (4,000 word independant essay)
Students will be counseled about the IB Program during their sophomore year.
Universities know and respect the standards and practices of the IB Program and IB authorized schools.
